ANDSOOHA Public Health Nursing Management

In a public health career that has spanned 33 years, Susan has held a variety of positions from her beginning days as a Public Health Nurse to her present position as Public Health Program Director at Algoma Public Health, where she is responsible for Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention, Sexual Health, Vaccine-Preventable Disease, Genetics Media, and Volunteer programs. At the community level, Susan's leadership skills and extensive experience has led to such notable achievements as designation from the World Health Organization of the Sault Ste. Marie Safe Communities Partnership as an International Safe Community, and the adoption of an electronic medical records system at Algoma as well as the use of an immunization scheduling system in partnership with a large health service organization during the H1N1 response. Susan's knowledge and deep commitment to public health can also be seen in her active roles on various provincial organizations, including alPHa, the Chief Nursing Officers Working Group, and the Joint Provincial Nursing Committee. A long-time supporter of ANDSOOHA public health nursing management, Susan served as President from 2008 to 2010 and is currently on its executive. During her ANDSOOHA presidency, Susan led the development of the Orientation: Transition to Public Health Nursing Modules, which has been widely adopted both in Ontario and across Canada.
